FORT WORTH, TEXAS (January 2, 2002) - Spanish and French-speaking consumers love Mrs. Renfro's salsas. As Renfro Foods continues to increase its global presence with product distribution in new international markets, the salsa manufacturer now has product labeling in Spanish and French to meet the demand in Spanish-speaking and French-speaking markets.
Renfro Foods has struck a deal with H.E. Butt Grocery Co. of San Antonio to introduce seven products into H-E-B's Mexico stores. Additionally, Mrs. Renfro's products have been introduced in Chile by the Fleming Companies. Products headed for these international territories have labeling in both Spanish and English. Renfro's also has product distribution in the French and English-speaking provinces in Canada.
For Mexico, Renfro's had to comply with strict new laws regarding exact formats for imported food labels. The process to obtain a "constancia" for each product took about nine months and required coordination between Renfro's, H-E-B, a translator/consultant and a broker. Canada, too, has a strict government regulatory process regarding imported food labels.
RENFRO'S GOES MULTILINGUAL - ADD ONE
"You have to have a lot of patience to break into international markets properly, but we believe it will be worth it long-term," says Doug Renfro, president of Renfro Foods, Inc. "You also have to be prepared to spend some money up front, months or years before you'll see of the money come back in the form of sales," he added
Fort Worth-based Renfro Foods, founded in 1940, is a third generation family-run business celebrating its 62ndyear. Its products can be found in supermarkets, gourmet food stores and gift shops in 50 states, Canada, Chile, Denmark and Mexico.
