Boston overtakes Dallas-Fort Worth as company's #1
salsa market
FORT WORTH, Texas (March 18, 2003) The craving for
unique, specialty salsa products has now caught on in
a big way in the Northeast. Boston has overtaken the
Dallas-Fort Worth area as well Houston and San Antonio
as the number one market for Mrs. Renfro's gourmet salsas.
Boston showed a 66 percent gain over 2002.
"Boston was barely in our 'top 20' as recently
as five years ago," says Doug Renfro, president.
"We are thrilled, and somewhat amazed, that this
is now our number one salsa market. Spicy foods have
apparently become a big part of their palate."
The increase in Boston's numbers are a strong reflection
on Renfro's signing up one of the area's biggest supermarket
chains, Shaw's, which also owns Star Market. Mrs. Renfro's
salsas are in 165 of the company's stores.
In the Boston area, Mrs. Renfro's products can be found
in Shaw's/Star Market, Stop & Shop, Demoulas Super
Markets, Roche Bros., Hannaford Bros. and many independent
grocery stores. Each product has a kitchen-tested recipe
right on the label for helpful cooking suggestions.
Fort Worth-based Renfro Foods manufactures a variety
of sauces and relishes, including 26 Mrs. Renfro's products
distributed through supermarkets and gourmet and gift
shops in all 50 states, Canada, the Caribbean. Three
generations of Renfros have devoted themselves to the
family business since its founding in 1940.
